La semana pasada viajamos con Grazia México y Avon a Nueva York para los Beauty Bloggers Awards, donde fanáticas y expertas en belleza participaron hace un mes para poder llegar a esta etapa final. No solo se trató de una competencia, el tiempo que compartimos todos los bloggers y el equipo de Grazia y Avon fue lo que hizo el viaje algo especial.
Last week we traveled with Grazia México and Avon to New York for the Beauty Bloggers Awards, where beauty fanatics and experts participated last month to get to this final stage. It wasn't just about a competition, all the time spent together with the rest of the bloggers and the Grazia México and Avon team was what made the trip special.
THE ARRIVAL
La llegada fue cansada pero aún así encontramos tiempo para pasear y convivir. Nos recibieron con increíbles productos de Avon que después nos serían útiles para la actividad del siguiente día. Cenamos juntos en el Hotel Americano, donde nos hospedaríamos por los siguientes días. Aprovechamos lo que quedaba de la noche para caminar hacia Times Square, tomamos un millón de fotos (porque, bloggers) y empezamos a conocernos mejor.
Our arrival was tiring but we still managed to find time to mingle around and get along. We were received with incredible Avon products that would later be useful for the activity on the next day. We had dinner together at the Hotel Americano, where we would stay for the next few days. We made good use of the time left on that night to walk around Times Square, took a million photos (because, bloggers), and got to know each other better.
THE CHALLENGE
Este día fue un reto. Nuestro trabajo fue idea un look de maquillaje inspirado en el verano, no teníamos idea de la localidad de la sesión hasta momentos antes y mucho menos de la modela que llevaría nuestro look. Mi sesión se llevó a cabo en High Line, con la vista de la ciudad de fondo y rodeado de áreas verdes. La idea que yo tenía era representar los colores cálidos del verano de una manera effortless y natural, algo que pudiera recrearse con facilidad. El resultado final lo podrán ver en la edición de Julio de Grazia México junto con los looks de los demás bloggers.
This day was a challenge. Our job was to come up with a makeup look inspired by Summer, we had no idea where the shoot was going to be until a fee moments prior to it, neither who was going to be our model. My shoot took place at the High Line, with the city as a background and lots of greenery around. My idea was to sport all the warm Summer colors in an effortless and natural way, something that could be recreated easily. The final look will be at Grazia México this July along with the other bloggers' looks.
Después de horas de trabajo (que por supuesto jamás imaginé que fueran tan largas) tuvimos toda la tarde libre para pasear por Nueva York. Caminamos por las calles llenas de spots perfectos para fotos, visitamos el Central Market, nos subimos al metro, paseamos por la Quinta Avenida y terminamos el día tranquilamente en el hotel.
After hours of work (which I never imagined would be so tiring) we had the whole afternoon to walk around New York. We walked around the streets full of perfect spots for photos, visited Central Market, jumped on the subway, strolled around Fifth Avenue, and ended our day quietly at the hotel.

AVON GLOBAL RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT CENTER
Como la adicta a maquillaje y cuidado de piel que me auto-proclamé, visitar el Centro de Investigación y Desarrollo de Avon fue uno de los momentos importantes en mi viaje. Encontré maquillaje antiguo en mostradores en la habitación donde más tarde comeríamos y nos dieron un adelanto de lo que veríamos en nuestra visita. Nos enseñaron cómo se hacen algunos productos, sus estándares de calidad, la manera en que se preocupan por lo que las mujeres buscan en el maquillaje y muchas otras cosas más.
As a self-declared makeup and skincare addict, visiting the Avon Global Research and Development Center was one of the highlights of this trip. Vintage makeup was on display the moment we first entered the room where had lunch later that day and got introduced to what our visit would be like. The place is enormous and we managed to look into as much as we could. We were shown how some products are made, their quality standards, the way they care about what women look for in makeup, and so many other things.
Tristemente no podíamos tomar foto de muchas de estas cosas, pero logré capturar las más coloridas: La Librería de Color. Estos archivos resguardan muestras de color de cada producto de Avon de varias décadas atrás. Lo más interesante es ver cómo cada cajón va de acuerdo a los colores y acabados en tendencia a su tiempo y cómo van enloqueciendo a medida de que se acercan a la actualidad.
Sadly, we were not allowed to photograph many of these interesting things but I captured one of the most colorful ones: The Color Library. These archives are home to color samples of every Avon product from decades behind. The most interesting part is seeing how every drawer goes along with the colors and finishes that were trending at their time and how they get crazier over time as they get closer to modern times.
Después la comida (y las galletas más deliciosas) con el equipo de Avon, volvimos al hotel para cambiarnos de ropa, descansar un tiempo y salir para seguir explorando. Compré un Contour Stick de Avon True, unas brochas para rostro y ojos y un Aceite Luminoso para el Cuerpo en la tienda de Avon, los cuales usé de inmediato antes de salir.
After having lunch (and the most delicious cookies) with the Avon crew, we went back to the hotel to change clothes, rest for a while, and head out for more exploring time. I purchased an Avon True Contour Stick, some face and eye brushes, and a Glowy Body Oil at the Avon Shop, which I immediately used before heading out again.
Terminamos el día viendo lugares bonitos y tiendas en las que me contuve para no quedarme en bancarrota. Tanto caminar me dejó con unas ganas impresionantes de carbohidratos y qué mejor lugar que un restaurante en Little Italy donde cené junto con Esa Martínez. Más tarde nos reunimos con el resto de los bloggers y equipo de Avon y Grazia en la terraza del hotel con esta increíble vista.
We ended the day looking at pretty places and stores in which I managed to contain the urge to empty my bank account. All this walking left me craving carbs and what a better place to indulge than a restaurant at Little Italy were Esa Martínez and I had dinner. We later joined the rest of the bloggers and Avon and Grazia team at the hotel rooftop with this incredible view.
ONE LAST STROLL
Nuestro último día se sintió más como últimos momentos. Solo tuvimos un par de horas libres esa mañana y yo las aproveché para disfrutar del hotel y caminar por los alrededores. Esta era mi primera vez en Nueva York y quedé asombrada por la ciudad pero mucho más por la experiencia que tuve con las personas que lo compartí. Estoy feliz de que volveré en unos meses con mi best travel partner de siempre para visitar todos los lugares cliché que me faltaron.
Our last day felt more like last moments. We only had a couple of free time that morning and I used these to enjoy my stay at the hotel and walk around nearby. This was my first time in New York and I was amazed by the city but even more by how I experienced it with the people that I shared this trip with. I'm happy that I'll be back in a few months with my usual best travel partner to visit all the cliché spots that I missed this time.
